Alex serves as the managing partner of our Boston office. Alex’s leadership of McKinsey’s Travel, Logistics & Infrastructure Practice entails supporting clients on many fronts, from strategy development to regulatory reform efforts. As is fitting for a pilot, Alex has assisted airlines and aerospace companies around the world, most recently in bipolar efforts in Canada and Chile.
Alex’s recent work reflects the operating and cost challenges that commercial carriers as well as charter carriers face in today’s travel industry. He recently supported the top management team of a large Latin American airline group in a successful transformation of their short-haul business model, eventually reducing costs by 34 percent and tripling EBITDA margins in 18 months. On the organization front, Alex led a McKinsey team in reorganizing a leading Asia-Pacific airline, working with the CEO and CFO to transform the airline from a functional organization to a series of autonomous business units.
Alex also assists governments in the area of aviation regulatory reform. He advised a Latin American agency in establishing a multi-year balanced scorecard for the aviation industry and helped develop a multiagency framework to implement and track regulatory and capability compliance.
Alex brings unique industry experience and operational insight to McKinsey and is a frequent contributor to knowledge-development efforts.
