Working primarily in consumer packaged goods (CPG) and industrials, David helps direct McKinsey’s work on packaging. Within the packaging-solutions space, he serves both packaging converters and equipment companies. David’s expertise spans substrates of packaging and includes corrugate, paper, printed cartons, plastic resin (flexible, rigid, and semi-rigid), aluminum, steel, pallets, as well as closures and labels. He advises clients on issues related to growth and account management, mergers and acquisitions, organizational structure, operations and manufacturing, and marketing and sales.
Examples of David’s recent client work include the following:
-
supporting mergers and integrations for multiple packaging and industrial companies
- advising a global paper and engineered-products manufacturer on growth—both organic and inorganic
- performing due diligence for packaging companies in rigid, metal, and flexible categories
- assisting a privately owned CPG company with an organizational redesign of its senior team, which included structure, governance, incentives, and efficiency
- advising a large, private-label CPG company optimize procurement and packaging and reduce spend
Prior to rejoining McKinsey, David spent many years in industry. He served as the CEO of a publicly traded, early-stage fastening technology company. During his tenure at a global plastics packaging company, he held numerous roles, including global vice president of R&D. As a vice president and general manager, David oversaw two business units that provided packaging to the food-service, personal-care, healthcare, and spirits industries. Earlier in his career, he held executive roles in strategy, product management, sales, and marketing in the fastener and packaging industries.
David volunteers on numerous nonprofit boards in the Detroit area. In his spare time, he is a dedicated runner and triathlete. He enjoys spending time outdoors in northern Michigan during the summer.
