Guangyu leads the Capital Projects & Infrastructure Practice in Asia and the Greater China Public Sector Practice. He has worked in economic development for the public and private sectors, undertaking more than 60 engagements in large Chinese cities, together with advising clients in Malaysia, Egypt, and Latin America. A native speaker of Chinese (including Mandarin, Shanghainese, and Cantonese), he is fluent in English and proficient in French.

Guangyu is an expert in regional economic development and sustainable urbanization, as well as the transformation of leading infrastructure players. He has been involved in most of McKinsey’s public-sector engagements in a dozen major cities across China and other emerging markets. He has advised the senior management of leading state-owned enterprises in China on a wide range of strategic, organizational, and operational issues along their transformation journey. He has also supported leading private-sector real-estate firms.

His recent projects include the following:

  • advising Ministry of Commerce People’s Republic of China (MOFCOM) on offshoring and outsourcing industry-development strategy
  • supporting a national government during the past decade of commercial-destination development, urban renewal, modern-services sector development, retail policy, and financial-center development
  • developing comprehensive urban-development strategies for six major Chinese cities
  • advising a leading electricity conglomerate on a full range of strategy and organizational issues

During the past five years, Guangyu has been leading initiatives to transform a number of the world’s largest property developers.
