Sebastián leads McKinsey’s RTS Practice in Iberia and is a long-standing leader of our Travel, Logistics & Infrastructure Practice.
An expert in strategy, corporate finance, and performance transformation, Sebastián has developed strategic plans and led multiple mergers and acquisitions for airlines. He has also supported several airlines and clients across other sectors in their restructuring efforts.
Sebastián was instrumental in leading the development of McKinsey’s core airline strategic-planning methodology and tools (including traffic forecasting) and coled our work on an airline-industry perspective around the change of paradigm in airline funding.
Recently, Sebastián helped a leading global airline to develop and execute a holistic transformation to achieve its return-on-capital aspiration in a difficult macro and competitive environment. He also shaped the turnaround plan for a leading European airline with around €600 million in savings across labor, operating, and contractual levers. Supporting two leading flagship carriers in their merger and integration, Sebastián worked with both management teams to establish postmerger aspirations. He subsequently supported the newly formed group in capturing over €300 million in cost synergies, setting up global functions (for example, IT, procurement, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul). He also helped a European flagship carrier to design its long-term hub strategy, aiming at radically improving on-time performance (to become a global leader in this area), transforming customer satisfaction, and capturing efficiency gains of more than 10 percent.
In 2016, Sebastián was selected as one of the “Top 100 Economic Leaders for Tomorrow” in Spain.
